 Abstract:  The West Side D.T.J. was a Cleveland, Ohio, neighborhood branch of the Workers Gymnastic Union (Delnicke Telecvicne Jednoty), a Czech socialist sokol organization established in Cleveland in 1909. The West Side Branch was created in 1926 as an English-speaking unit for second generation Czechs, evolving into a social and cultural organization before it dissolved in 1978. The collection consists of minutes, 1926-1978, and certificates and miscellaneous materials removed from the minute books.

2Title:  Ptak Family Papers and Organizational Records

 Abstract:  Victor G. and Bohumir E. Ptak were brothers who owned the Ptak Music and Furniture Store in Cleveland, Ohio. Bohumir's sons, Bo and Denny (Zdenke) also were partners in the company. The family was very active in Cleveland's Czech societies, including Lumir-Hlahol-Tyl, Sokol Tyrs, Nationalities Services Center, and others. Victor was married to Marus Hlavacek Ptak. The collection consists of a small amount of correspondence, clippings and memorabilia. The organizational records form the bulk of the collection and consist of correspondence, reports, meeting minutes, agendas, memoranda, financial records, bulletins and printed materials. Included in the organizational records are those of various Czech societies and several parent-teacher associations of Cleveland schools.

3Title:  Swiss Turner Records

 Abstract:  The Swiss Turner was a gymnastic society founded in Cleveland, Ohio, in 1891 as the Schweizer Turn Verein, by Swiss immigrants. The group practiced at various locations until the united Swiss societies purchased a hall at 2710 Walton Avenue in 1919. The Swiss Turners of Cleveland participated in every national competition sponsored by the Swiss American Gymnastic Association through 1973. The group also hosted national competitions in 1969 and 1973. The group still met as of 1995. The collection consists of minutes, financial information, correspondence, and membership information.
